Though the recession officially ended in 2009, a poll this year found almost 60 percent of parents were financially supporting adult children, according the National Endowment for Financial Education.
The poll found 26 percent of parents had taken on extra debt and 7 percent had delayed retirement.
The arrangement goes beyond dollars. Mingling family and finances can be emotional and uncomfortable. A parent can lose privacy. An adult child can lose pride. Shame and resentment can swell.
